The Lebanese German Business Council, together with the BVMW Representative Office in Lebanon, held a constructive meeting with H.E. Dr. Amer Bsat, Minister of Economy and Trade, at the Ministry of Economy and Trade. President Elias Assouad chaired the meeting, which was also attended by members of the LGBC Board and Ms. Carolina Teworte, First Secretary for Economic, Press and Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Beirut. The discussion focused on strengthening Lebanese-German economic cooperation, supporting Lebanese SMEs, facilitating trade and investment, and exploring practical channels for private-sector engagement. LGBC also expressed its interest in contributing to the Ministry’s initiative aimed at developing economic and business connections with Syria, and highlighted the possibility of exploring German-linked cooperation mechanisms for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of affected areas in Lebanon. The meeting confirmed the importance of maintaining a direct and active communication channel between the Ministry of Economy and Trade and LGBC to develop practical follow-up steps, sector-focused dialogue, and business-driven initiatives that support Lebanon’s economic recovery. Spotlight on EuroBey: Beyond an event A major highlight of the evening was the introduction of EuroBey, an upcoming initiative designed to connect Europe to the Arab world through Beyrouth. EuroBey aims to be a comprehensive platform for a diverse audience including investors, startups, exhibitors, students, and families, showcasing Lebanon as a vibrant hub for economic and cultural exchange. Insightful Panel Discussion The dinner featured a panel discussion led by Dr. Nassib Ghobril, Chief Economist at Byblos Group, with distinguished panelists including Netherlands Ambassador Hans Peter van der Woude and Dr. Norbert Fiess Lead economist at the World Bank. The conversation delved into Perspectives on the Lebanese Economy amid Local and Regional Turmoil.
